Baptisms at Trinity
Holy Baptism at Trinity
Baptism is a sacrament. The Episcopal Church understands that baptism confers full membership in the Church, including participation in Holy Communion. Though baptism is an offering and celebration of the individual, it is supremely an event of the community. There is no such thing as a private baptism; candidates are sponsored by parents and godparents—or in the case of an adult, presented by a beloved friend or family member—and are surrounded and affirmed by the congregation. Accordingly, all baptisms take place during public worship.
Instruction
At Trinity, all candidates, sponsors/presenters, parents and godparents are required to attend pre-baptismal instruction the Saturday morning before the Sunday baptism. The intention of this class is to fully prepare the candidates and families on the meaning of Baptism and provide a solid foundation for the newly baptized in their life of faith.
If the godparents (or sponsors) are unable to attend, they need to receive instruction prior to the Baptism from an Episcopal priest at a local congregation. Parents are asked to give evidence of this preparation.
If the above criteria are not met then the candidate for baptism will be rescheduled to a later date.
